If you are considering becoming a hyperlocal blogger, you have no doubt searched the internet and studied those who are already successful. I do it everyday and will eventually write articles on all of my favorites. One of the sites I visit every week is Baristanet.com. Baristanet is one of those sites that had the vision early and is now very successful. I recommend that you study hyperlocal sites that are successful and see if you can implement some of their practices on your own site.
Baristanet.com was started in 2004 in Montclair, NJ. The site is published by Debbie Galant and Liz George. The site receives over 5000 visits per day. That’s serious traffic folks, and the type of traffic that make Baristanet financially successful. I would recommend that you bookmark Baristanet and make steady visits as you study the site and determine what makes them successful. I subscribe by e-mail and the amount of articles they post everyday is staggering. I recommend e-mail subscriptions instead of by a reader. The reason for this is that many of us do not visit our news reader but occasionally. When you go hyperlocal, by receiving these articles from various hyperlocal web sites, it serves as a constant reminder everyday of why they are successful and where you are trying to get.
I stumbled upon this interview of Debbie Galant and it is a hidden jewel of information for hyperlocal bloggers. Debbie explains how she started the site and gives great insight on the effort it takes to run Baristanet.com. As I did, you will probably watch this interview several times to gather it all in. Debbie was very gracious in sharing this information.
Hyperlocal blogging is hard work but if you do it correctly such as Baristanet, it can be very rewarding. Thankyou Debbie for sharing with all of us aspiring bloggers such a wealth of information.
