I love to watch documentaries, so I gave it a try.

I couldn’t believe what I was watching. This is the story of a man who was morbidly obese and sick with an uncurable disease. Doctors couldn’t seem to help him.

His name is Joe Cross and he felt as if he was going to die.

He made a decision to try and fight his health issues through his diet and specifically, by going on a 60 day vegetable juice diet.

What followed was a complete transformation of Joe’s health and his body.

If you haven’t yet watched then documentary, I don’t want to give it all away by writing about it.

You owe it to yourself to watch this film.

Here is what happened after we watched this film.

My son started juicing and in a couple of weeks lost 15 lbs. My son has an athletic build and is muscular. He didn’t need to lose the weight but he reports to me that he feels much better.

As for myself, I can stand to lose 20 lbs. I had already cut my carb intake by 70% about 4 months ago because all of my pants were starting to fit too snug.

Juicing seemed to be healthy addition to my daily diet.

My thinking was that a dive watch is certainly going to be constructed in a much different way than a normal wrist watch. I needed a watch that I could treat rough and get wet and it would keep performing.

Best Dive Watch?

My personal choice as the best dive watch is the Citizen Dive Watch.

The best choice of anything boils down to personal preferences of course, but if you are considering purchasing a diver’s watch, I would urge you to take a hard look at Citizen watches. Next to Rolex, it’s one of the best brands that money can buy.

The first thing that you will notice is that a dive watch is usually heavier than a normal wrist watch.

You can feel the difference immediately when you put it on. That is the quality construction and heavier materials used to allow you to go scuba diving with your depth watch on.

I personally do not scuba dive any more but I do swim in the ocean while wearing my watch. My watch has never failed me.

My dive watch is also the subject of conversation. I can’t tell you how many people ask about it when they see it. I’m usually asked if I’m a diver.

Most dive watches will allow you to go to a depth of about 1000 ft. and are built for extreme shock resistance.

A lot of dive watches will feature an outside bezel which a diver will manually set when he wants to determine a specific amount of time he has been on his dive.

Before entering the water, a diver can set the bezel to a pre-determined number of minutes he wants to be down. He will set the bezel at zero and align it with the current minute hand of the watch.

The bezel on my watch is set in 10 minute increments. All a diver will have to do while underwater is to look at the bezel without trying to calculate his time.

A diver will simply look at the minute hand and corresponding bezel number to determine how long he has been down.

If I went in the water at 10:54, I would set the bezel “0″ at the 54 mark. If I want to be in the water for 30 minutes, I only have to look to see when the minute hand hits the number “30″ on the bezel dial.

If you are 200′ underwater, you do not want to be adding numbers to determine your oxygen.

This is just one of the features of my Citizen watch that makes me believe it’s one of the best dive watches you can buy.

My dive watch is a piece of jewelry and also a heirloom. Rarely would a father pass on his Timex to his son. In my case, my dive watch goes to my son when I check out.

Below is a close-up photo of my personal citizen dive watch. It has some wear and tear but it works as good today as the first day I wore it.

I recommend that you spend the extra money and buy a quality dive watch that will last you for years.

You can expect to pay a premium price for a solid good quality dive watch. My watch was around $500 and that was several years ago. Shop online and you can find a great dive watch under $500.

My dive watch is one of my most prized possessions because it was given to me as a Christmas gift when my children were little.

You don’t have to be a scuba diver to wear a dive watch obviously.

If you want a quality time piece that looks awesome and very manly, you should consider buying one. I would hint strongly to your family and casually lay some brochures on the table. That’s what I did when I got mine.

The choice for best dive watches is up to you, but I promise you can’t go wrong with a Citizen.

This is my third Kershaw assisted opening knife. I lost the first 2 and I have managed to keep this one for about 4 years now.

Why Do I Think This Is The Best Folding Knives For Men?

• Pocket knives are small and easily concealed.
• Clips to your front pocket for easy access.
• Can be used for self defense.
• Can be used to rescue someone.
• Can be used to open Amazon boxes when they arrive at your door.

First off the knife is small. For everyday carry, a man is better off being able to conceal his folding pocket knife. We do not want to run around looking like Rambo.

The second reason is the little clip on the side which allows us to clip it to our pockets easily. By clipping it to our pocket, we don’t have to dig among our keys and pocket change to try and find our knife.

I can have my knife out of my pocket and the blade open just like a western gunslinger, only faster.

As far as self defense goes, it comes out of my pocket so fast and opens that someone would be crazy to approach me unless they had a gun or other superior weapon.

You may find yourself in an emergency situation. What if you came upon a burning car and someone was trapped in the car by their seat-belt. You could free them with your pocket knife.

What if you were attacked by a dog? The dog may bite me but he is going to stabbed by me until he let’s go.

If you go on a picnic and forget the can opener, you can open that can of peaches if you are carrying a sweet little folding knife in your pocket and save the day.

Of course, all men use their pocket knife to clean their fingernails.

No man can ever go fishing unless he is carrying his trusty fishing knife.

I live on a pond and there is a lot of wilderness around me.

I never go hiking through the woods without my folding-knife.

A good folding knife is the next best thing to having a concealed weapons permit.

You can carry a pocket knife into any establishment legally.

This past weekend, Mother Nature gave us a beautiful weekend full of Carolina Blue skies. Some friend of ours came down and spent the day with us at the pond. It was a day of relaxation, cooking out, fishing and a little target practice for the boys (and girls).

I set up a shooting range at the end of the property and we shot our personal arsenal of weapons. I shot my Glock 36 (.45 cal) and .32 cal revolver. One of my friends brought his AK-47 and it was a blast to shoot such a powerful weapon. We also added a crossbow in the mix. All I can say is “O’ Hell Yea” to the crossbow with a scope. We looked like the militia.

I walked around all day shooting some great pictures and video with my new digital camera, the Canon Powershot SD-4500 IS. I was pretty much blown away by the quality of the photos and the HD video was as good on the Canon Powershot as my $3500 Canon XH-A1.

I decided to make a video using the online photo and video slideshow website, Animoto. It’s a very simple process to create professional looking slideshows. I’m not writing a review at this time but I wanted to just show you what is possible using the service. The video below is made using the “Pro” version of Animoto. Animoto Pro is $249 a year. Well worth the money if you just want an automatic process that is easy and provides a professional result.

Animoto provides you the option of using your music or their music. You can post your videos to Social Media sites with ease. You can even start a free account.

I finally did it. I crossed over to the dark side. Yep that’s right. I installed Windows 7 on my iMac. It hurt me to do it. I just do not like Windows and PC’s at all. I converted totally to Mac in late 2007 and I never looked back.

I finally did it. I crossed over to the dark side. Yep that’s right. I installed Windows 7 on my iMac. It hurt me to do it. I just do not like Windows and PC’s at all. I converted totally to Mac in late 2007 and I never looked back.

I still run a few software programs that run on windows software. I did some research and discovered that I could use VMware Fusion to install windows 7.

I’ve had my eye on a couple of programs that I wanted that are Windows only and the only way to get them was to either use my Windows PC desktop (which sucks) or add the Window operating system to my iMac. I chose the latter.

I can now clear my desk of my Dell monitor and Dell eMachine. I will probably donate the monitor to our local Goodwill Store. The PC itself is heading toward my local landfill after I open it and smash the hard drive with a hammer a few times.

Adding Windows 7 to my iMac was surprisingly easy. I purchased a program called VMware Fusion 3.

VMware Fusion 3 installed quickly to my Mac, like most any other program would. This virtual machine software creates what is referred to as a “virtual machine.” A virtual machine is the software equivalent of a physical computer. In effect, I have a Windows PC installed now inside my iMac. Oh the blasphemy of it all. Please forgive me Steve Jobs.

VMware Fusion 3 installed into my applications folder.

The next step is to open up VMware by double-clicking it inside your applications folder. Insert your Windows operating system disc and it will prompt you for your license key of course. I’m sure that no one who reads Bloggerlens would ever use a pirated copy. I didn’t either, I bought a brand new Windows 7. The process to install Windows takes a while. I’m guessing about 45 minutes to install from the disc.

Automagically, you now have Windows on your Mac. Woo Hoo.

Let me just say that when you want something bad enough, you are willing to do whatever it takes. I want to run these other programs and I did not want to use separate machines so I did the dirty deed.

Here is a screen cast I made so you can see what Windows will look like on your Mac when you start the program. Keep in mind that you can run both operating systems at the same time. You do not have to close one and open the other. You can share folders also. I did not notice a slowdown in performance at all while using both Windows and the Mac OS system. Don’t worry about it being complicated to install VMware Fusion 3 on a Mac, because it isn’t. The program will walk you through the process step-by-step.

I didn’t realize just how bad my yard sucks this summer until yesterday when I walked outside to shoot some practice video. Looking through the viewfinder of a camera really tells a truth that you can’t deny. Actually, I did realize it but this summer I have refused to face the bitter truth. I admit that this is probably the worst year I have ever had at yard maintenance. Partly due to circumstances and partly due to the fact that I have been lazy. I offer proof that my yard sucks with the video below. My yard has taken a back seat to everything else this summer. Luckily, from the street it looks ok, but it is awful for the most part. I promised my yard yesterday that I would do better. BTW, nothing in the video was staged. I shot it as it was. That’s why it’s so pathetic.

Yes, the yard looks like crap but this post is about testing out some video settings and just practicing for fun. No reason to waste footage, right?

I went outside to shoot some video clips for practice and to try different settings on my video camera. Recently, I upgraded my video editing software from Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro. It’s time for me to take video production more seriously than just a hobby. I want to pursue more video work and possibly some professional and “paying” editing work. Final Cut Pro opens a new world to those who edit video. The interface is the same as FCE but FCP is professional software with only a zillion more options and features. More Hollywood motion pictures and TV shows are now being edited on Final Cut Pro. The same software is available to all of us for under $1000.

I wanted some new footage to drop into Final Cut Pro. For the geeky types, here are the technical details from yesterday’s “Ugly Yard” shoot.

Video camera settings used:
I shot the video with my Canon XH A1 . The XH A1 shoots on mini DV tapes.
I shot in 16:9 (widescreen), High Definition, 24f (frames/sec).
Color preset, VIVIDRGB by Stephen Dempsey.
Here is a video on Vimeo that shows many different color presets that can be used on the Canon XH A1 camcorder. There are a lot of very talented people out there who build Canon XH A1 presets and freely allow others to download and use them. Many thanks to these people.
My tripod is a Davis & Sanford Provista 75XB.
Video was shot in manual, in the AV mode. I used auto-focus in a couple of the zoom shots.

Final Cut Pro workflow details:
Straight editing. Nothing fancy.
No color correction at all. Video is straight out of the camera using the preset.
Once edited, I saved the video as a PNG (lossless), 1280 x 720HD. This will save your video with no loss and it will be a large .mov file. It takes a while and this video was 6.14 gigs before compression. High definition video creates very large files. A lot of people think that just saving a non-compressed Quicktime Movie file will save your original project. In my experience, this is incorrect. Quicktime will definitely compress your original files, PNG format does not.

Preparing video for the web:
Obviously, the file was much too large for the web. It must be compressed into a smaller file, all the while trying to preserve the quality of the original. I dropped the video into my favorite compression software called DV Kitchen. I love this software and it’s only $79. You can download a free trial at the link I gave you. i think the free trial is good for 20 days. I promise, you will buy DV Kitchen it if you try it out. It does much more than only compressing video.

My confession is that this is the first time I have ever used green screen myself. I’m always looking for ways to improve my online video production. I’m happy to say that it was very easy and you should give it a go yourself. Once you see what the green screen effect can have on your videos, I think you will want to give it a try. If I must say so myself, I think the video review below turned out pretty decent actually since it was my first attempt. If I can do it, so can you. Green screen can have so many uses in your videos. Green Screen Background

A green screen is simply a large piece of green fabric that you place in your background. That’s it, nothing special. You can use green screen fabric or you could use green screen paint. Actually, just plain green paint will do just fine. Shoot your video by standing in front of a green screen and then when editing, replace the green behind you with whatever video element that you desire. You can place videos, special effects, or still photos in the background. The removal of the green is done with your video editing software.

Chromakey Green Screen
This is a fancy term for removing the green in the video. Once the green is gone, all that is left is a transparent, black background, ready for you to insert what ever element you wish. Most video editing programs will have a video filter that will allow you to remove the green screen background and replace it with your own images. I use final cut express to edit my videos. In final cut express, once your video is in the time line, just drop the chromakey filter on top of your video. Use the settings to fine tune and remove the green from all around you. It’s a very simple process that is all software based. Do it once, and you will become a pro. Chances are, the video editing program you are using now already contains green screen software.

Using a green screen
In one word, simple. My setup is very simple and you will be able to see it in the video. I give you several examples where I am standing in front of the green screen fabric and I replace the green with still photos and videos.

A professional green screen background setup is surprisingly affordable. Good chroma key lighting, often referred as green screen lighting is essential. I set mine up in my office on a wall as you will see in the video.

Green Screen Software

Since I use a Mac to produce all of my videos, I use either Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro as my green screen video editing software.

Green Screen Software For Windows

If you use a Windows PC, a good program that you can use to make green screen videos would be Pinnacle Studio MovieBox. Pinnacle is good for Windows Vista, Windows XP & Windows 7. The cool thing about Pinnacle MovieBox is that the box includes green screen fabric and a set of plugins that makes it easy for you to do advanced green screen effects. Pinnacle makes it easy to make a green screen video and upload it to video sites like Youtube. Oh yes, you can make HD green screen videos with Pinnacle.

Pinnacle is the way I would go for green screen software if you use a Windows PC. It’s easy and you get professional results. I like easy.

If you want to buy all of your green screen items as a bundle and save some money ion the process, this is a very good and inexpensive green screen setup. You can set it up once and leave it or a good advantage is the fact that it’s very lightweight and portable. Lighting is essential if you plan on making green screen videos. Lighting is also remarkably affordable. I recommend that you purchase a decent lighting kit such as this and not only will you be able to use it for green screen videos, but other videos you make. The kits fold up very small and you can toss them into your trunk. I’ve set up a kighting kit in our family room just to make better family videos. Remember, good light – good video.

I made this video review of the Apple Mighty Mouse because it’s my all time favorite mouse and laptop accessory. Some people call it the Magic Mouse. I recommend the Mighty Mouse to everyone if they happen to use a bluetooth mouse. Let me say right now that you can use the mighty mouse if you use Mac or Windows. It’s not about the operating system, it’s about your equipments bluetooth capability. I have replaced all mouses that I use with the wireless magic mouse and I will never go back to using the old ones.

I recently bought an iMac and it came with a wireless apple keyboard and the Apple Magic Mouse. Once I put it into my hands, I was sold. When I fired up my iMac for the first time, the computer found it immediately and I started using it. The first thing I noticed was how well the mighty mouse fit in my hand. It was as if it were made for my hand. Apple engineers are brilliant. They make stuff that looks nice, works perfect and feels natural.

The second feature that I love is how this mouse scrolls. There are no roller balls, only a flat smooth surface that you gently stroke with your finger. The screen will scroll according to the speed in which you move your finger. Apple gives you a setup menu which allows you to perfectly customize how your mighty mouse works and responds to your input.

Battery power has not been an issue with me. I mostly use rechargeable batteries and this mighty mouse does not consume much battery power at all. You will not need any sort of a mouse pad to use this macintosh mouse. I simply lay mine directly on my desk. I certainly can’t recommend the mighty mouse without recommending the Apple Wireless Keyboard also.

This would make an awesome Christmas gift for a student at college. Anyone who uses a mouse would be grateful to you if you made one of these a present.

I love my Brother 6490 Wireless Printer. I love it enough to do a video review of the 6490 for sure. I have used many different brands of printers throughout my lifetime and I doubt that I will ever change brands again. Brother multifunction printers just plain work and they work outstanding. I first used a Brother laser printer a couple of years ago and it was one of the larger models. The only problem, I didn’t own it. When it came time to buy a new home office computer, I searched Amazon for one brand and decided upon the 6490 CW. This review is for the Brother 6490 inkjet.

I’ve owned this printer for almost a year and I have had zero problems with it. My first requirement is that it was wireless so that I could print to it from anywhere in my house. The wireless setup on the 6490 was a breeze and works perfect. You can set it up for multiple computers and it works Mac & Windows. Because I work with some graphics programs, I wanted a computer that printed in 11 x 17 and the 6490CW prints the larger size paper perfectly. The ink cartridges are super easy to replace and the cartridges are affordable.

I make a lot of photo slideshows and it requires me to scan a lot of old photos. One of the cool features of this printer is I can pull up the scan screen on my laptop and crop the picture before I scan it. This saves me an immeasurable amount of time and was a HUGE selling point to me. You can do the same if you need to scan photos for any reason. The 6490 is a very stylish printer also and looks great in my office. When the video finishes, there’s a link where you can check it out. What some buyers have said about the Brother MFC 6490:
- Full 11×17 scanning surface, great for scanning portions of full size drawings.
- Dual paper trays, didn’t realize this when I ordered it, great surprise.
- Quick, especially for an inkjet. I haven’t timed it but it makes short work of 11×17 Gannt charts (project schedule).
- Maybe the ink level sensors are optimistic, but I’ve run off maybe 50, 11×17 Gannt charts and another dozen or so 11×17 plan prints, and it’s yet to show a dent in ink levels.
- Quiet, cannot hear it over the air conditioning (although the AC is pretty loud).
- Setup was a breeze, I’m an ex-IT professional, but I’m pretty sure that anyone with basic network awareness can set it up. I was short a network cable so I connected to the wifi, set a static ip (although it initially grabbed one via DHCP) and then ran the installer, which located the printer and installed flawlessly. As a bonus the installer package was a small download (especially compared to HP’s), the status monitor doesn’t use much in the way of resources (3MB or so of RAM) even though it’s monitoring two network printers on this job (Brother 8480DN) and plays nice with druvers from a Brother 7340 from another site and a HP C6100 at home (yech).

I have found that this printer is very good on ink. It doesn’t use a lot and it’s inexpensive. Here is a link if you are just needing to order some Brother MFC ink.
