Have you been looking for a tool to download online videos?
It was a sad day for me when Dirpy shut down.
Dirpy allowed you to easily download youtube videos and mp3′s to your computer. They are gone now. There are many ways to download youtube video’s and I want to let you know about KEEPVID.
YouTube is a great place to find free music for youtube videos. I do that a lot.
Just grab a youtube video url and paste it in the KEEPVID search box.

In the screenshot below, I grabbed a random youtube video and I want you to look at the options for downloading that KEEPVID gives me.
You can even download Youtube videos to mp3 format.
No need to buy music for your iPod anymore.
KEEPVID even gives you the option to download the flash version.

The downloads are fast and goes straight to my desktop.
Now, why do I need to download a Youtube video you ask? Have you ever embedded a video on your site, only to check it later and see that the video has been removed by the owner or suffered some kind of Youtube penalty? I have and it’s aggravating to say the least.
There are times when I use Youtube videos for product review articles. I do not want to see the video removed. I prefer to control it. So…I download it and upload it again to my own hosting account. I control it and no one can remove it except for me.
Hey, I’m sorry. You threw it up on Youtube for the world to view and use. I’m granting you your wish.
I also tried KEEPVID with Vimeo and it worked great on videos where the owner allowed a download. Vimeo gives owners an option of allowing downloads or not.
Ok, you have downloaded a video from Youtube. What are you going to do with it? Check out my post, Create A Free Embed Code For Flash Videos. In that post, I show you how to use the flash video you have just downloaded and create an embed code for yourself allowing you to post the video all over your network with one upload and a free embed code.

I’ve been using KeepVid for years and loved the MP3 option. But now the MP3 option is gone, replaced by a new Download thing for PCs only (I’m on a Mac), and I can’t get anyone from KeepVid to help. Any suggestions?
So many of these type sites seem to be going away. You might want to consider using a screen capture software. Sometimes I resort to that. Roxio DVD software also has a feature to capture audio and video.
I have Roxio! I got it to save TiVo recordings. How do I use in this sitch? (Or is it too much to explain?)
Go to this page. I think you will find everything you need.
