I ran across this youtube video by accident and a lot of what this man says, rang true. It will probably ring true to you also if you offer any kind of service that you should be paid for. We all have skills and it’s human nature to be generous to others. The problem is that too many of us are generous while others may take advantage somewhat and not even mean too.
In my younger days, I worked for the telephone company. I wired homes and climbed a lot of poles. All of my friends and neighbors wanted telephone work back when everything was land lines. Most took advantage of me and never even considered paying for my services. I would crawl under their spider infested houses and wire extra outlets for them. I rarely got more than a “Thanks Steve, I appreciate it.”
My skills are different now and a lot of folks just do not understand that they should pay you for your time. I love doing things for family and friends. Sometimes you just have to draw the line. Check out the video below. Does any of what he says strike home with you?
