What’s The Worse That Can Happen?

Do you consider yourself mediocre? Seriously, this is a real question that I’m asking you. Do you consider yourself mediocre? How would you describe yourself? How would you describe your job or your family? How would you describe how you handle your hobby? Are you a fisherman? Do you go through the motions and grab your tackle box on Saturday morning and head out to the same spot because you know you’ll get a bite? Same rod & reel. Same bait or artificial lure. Same color bass worm?

Are you a painter? Do you always paint the same subjects? Always use water color or acrylics? Use the same brand of canvas? Do you always paint landscapes? Are you afraid to paint a ship in the harbor? Are you afraid to paint a canary sitting in a cage?

Whatever is your passion in life, are you settling for mediocrity or are you willing to try something new? Are you willing to to be embarrassed or fail? Why? What’s the worse that can happen?

Most of the things in life, at least mine, I can’t find a blueprint that guarantees me success. It seems I’m always going down a path that is not wore down a whole lot yet. Most of the things that I do, I can’t always find a mentor to guide me. Not everything though. When I do find a mentor I tend to latch on and hang on every word. I like to emulate, but I like to carve my own path also. Are you walking down that well worn path right now that a blind dog could easily follow? You know, a blind dog can feel the dirt under his paws. If he veers right or left, he feels grass or sticks or rocks. He quickly would veer back to get on his much travelled a safe pathway. What do you feel under your feet?

I don’t know who you are, I don’t know your age, sex or race. I don’t know your history. I don’t know your personality or your family. I don’t know your politics or the kind of car you drive. I want to challenge you to feel the thrill of rocks under your feet.

Have you ever met someone and discovered that they had an awesome success story? Have you found yourself in awe of that person and you became absolutely fascinated with their story? You asked them a ton of questions and hung on every word? You will probably find out that they have walked on a lot of rocks to get where they are going. Personally, I think I’m walking on a lot of rocks myself right now but my pathway is slowly getting smoother.

I would like to challenge each and every one of you today who may read this to start stepping on the rocks and venture off the beaten pathway. It really doesn’t matter what it’s about. Do you write a blog, do it a little different. Are you always “Status Quo?” Well then, step outside the box. Are you meek and timid? Be assertive for once. Do you keep your opinion to yourself? Screw it for once in your life and tell everyone your opinion. Are you afraid of what others may say? Who cares, be controversial for once just to see how it feels. Do you always slow down and avoid the other driver and keep your road rage inside? Well then, if you are going the opposite way, give that ass-wipe the finger.

I have to ask you once again, What’s The Worse That Can Happen?

  • Well, I was with you until the road rage part. I never confront Chicagoans in traffic, ever! I am so scared that someone will shoot my 5’8″ ass.
However, back to striking out the “path less travelled,” Bro , I am totally with you on that one. I am so tired of being told I should “settle in” and be thankful I have a good paying corp job. While I know I am blessed, I hafta say that I want a lot more out of life than what some ass-wipe in a corp office dictates. I want to go where I want, when I want and do what I want and see my family when I want, not just after my 12 hour work day!
So, YES, I get it! Good shiz, and on the note of politics, I ALWAYS try to take the rocky road on that one, just to see how much trouble I can stir up.
