Most everyone who has a YouTube account realizes that the videos you upload can either be 15 minutes or shorter in length or your videos can be unlimited in length.
Most of us are only given those 2 options.
My main YouTube channel has always had a 15 minute time limit for uploads.
I have always wanted the option of uploading longer videos because I see a ton of other people uploading long videos.
I have never had the need much to upload long videos to Youtube but I just wanted the option just in case.
Well, in my case, I have figured out how to get the longer video uploads to YouTube.
This is what happened to my account and could possibly be happening to your YouTube account.
I was looking at my account and I was aware I had several videos that had copyright notices attached to the videos due to the music I played on the videos.
YouTube allowed the videos and the music to play.
YouTube would put an Amazon or iTunes link under the video as an option for the viewer to purchase.
This week, I went in and deleted all of the videos that had a copyright notice on them. I had about 10 videos that were affected.
The next day when I checked my account, YouTube had given me the option of video uploads longer than 15 minutes.
Obviously, by removing the offending videos, it tripped a YouTube algorithm and gave me more options with my account.
Youtube uploads longer than 15 minutes
If you are in the same situation with your YouTube account, I recommend that you go into your settings and see if you have any videos with copyright violations. It’s a common account violation when you add music to your videos.
To be sure, I would delete the offending videos completely.
YouTube is very strict about copyright violations.
When I upload a video, I have to answer several questions about the content of the video before YouTube will revenue share the video with me.
You are not allowed to use photos, music or video clips in your video that you do not own or have permission to use.
For every video I upload, I have to write a statement on the upload page that I created the video and I own all of the content.
That’s my YouTube video tip for today, hope it helps.

Steve,
My question is does having longer than 15 minute videos decrease viewership? I know I am very reluctant to watch longer videos. I have a few people I subscribe to and I usually avoid the longer ones they post. One guy even said his longer ones get less views. Interested on your take.
I can’t speak from experience on any of my own videos yet. If it’s some sort of a tutorial, I don’t mind the longer videos. Personally, I tend to shy away from watching longer videos because of my attention span of a small child. I enjoy 3 – 4 minute videos that get straight to the point.
But for me, it depends on the personality of the video creator.
Here is a guy that I subscribe to that makes great videos and they are short and sweet. Not a lot of fluff. I always look forward to a new video being posted. http://www.youtube.com/user/MattsMacintosh/videos
Here is a guy that makes awesome outdoor videos and I wish they were 30 minutes long. http://youtu.be/XG57VdDYyIg
I’m no expert, but I think you can experience the most success by producing shorter videos.
cool videos. I’ll have to look more into them, being a Mac user.
